According to an announcement from Nintendo of America, Pikmin 3 will be released for the Wii U on August 4. Nintendo has also announced that a new flying Winged Pikmin is the latest addition to the game. The new pink unit will follow players and can carry their items in the air. "They will be helpful in different ways than the other Pikmin types," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated in todays Nintendo Direct episode.
