Here is what seems to be a video of Sonic 4. In both the video and the screenshots, it is visible that there are stages called the Splash Hill Zone,the Mad Gear Zone, and the Casino Street Zone, as well as a Sonic 1 style Special Stage.

It seems the sonic series is finally going back to it's roots, in full 2-D glory. How it will stack up to the sonic games which put sonic on the map in the first place (in my opinion, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3, as well as Sonic & Knuckles, is yet to be determined.
There is no argument that the game looks great though, as we can see from this screenshot, and the video below.
