Studio Director for BioWare Yanick Roy has announced that BioWare will be borrowing game systems for the next-gen Mass Effect from Dragon Age III. Here is the twitter back and forth between NeoGAF user "shinobi602" and Roy:

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing..as long as they do it right. Both games will be using DICE's proprietary Frostbite 3 engine and will probably be released sometime in 2014-2015.
